OCHOMINOES™

The 24 tiles of this set are paired octagons (octagon dominoes) with 0 to 6 squares attached on their edges—a new polyform set called polyocts. The Ochominoes tiles are level two, or diocts. Many look like goofy cartoon characters, color-coded for the number of squares the members of each group have. There are a dizzying number of different awesome figures and patterns to build with some or all of the 24 Ochominoes tiles. The solution shown at left is a rare arrangement where no two of the same color touch. See also color-grouping, color separation, symmetrical pairs, and clan symmetries. The 8½" tray holds a 7x8 array of pieces plus four black "bars"—two that are 4 octagons in length and two of length 3. These fillers add a decorative touch and are useful dividers for arrangements in and out of the tray. Color mix may vary. The booklet (.pdf) has rules for 2 games and is chockful of fun and creative themes solved by Dan through months of determined exploration. For 1 to 4 players, ages 8 to adult.
